May 19, 2021 By Admin
With the UEFA 2020 European Championships set to take place this summer, many football fans will be getting excited to see a number of the continent’s best players take to the field in their country’s colors as they look to win one of the biggest prizes in the sport’s international discipline.
However, with that said, there are going to be a number of Euro 2020 teams that will be depleted as some of their best and most valuable players are unavailable for the tournament because of the injuries that they have suffered, whilst there will also be teams that are not competing that have some of the most valuable players in the world of football.
Of course, there could only be 24 teams to take part, which means there was always going to be some top talent to miss out, as many of the nations within Europe could point a finger and say that they have a valuable player who should be going to the tournament.
1. Erling Braut Haaland
2. Virgil van Dijk
3. Jan Oblak
4. Joe Gomez
5. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Most valuable players to miss out on Euro 2020 | Detailed Stats
Here are just some of Europe’s most valuable players to have been confirmed to miss the UEFA 2020 European Championships, whether it be down to injury or simply that their country did not qualify.
Erling Braut Haaland
Starting with one of the hottest talents in the world of football at the moment, Erling Braut Haaland will be missing from UEFA 2020 European Championships as Norway failed to qualify for the competition.
The striker has been nothing but sensational for the last few seasons, whether that be at Red Bull Salzburg or at the current club, Borussia Dortmund, with his performances have earned him the tag of being the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi once the two greats of the game decide to hang their boots up; alongside France’s Kylian Mbappe, who should be at the upcoming tournament.
Haaland has managed to make the art of goalscoring appear incredibly easy, which is a real shame for European football fans as they would have undoubtedly wanted to watch him on one of the biggest international stages possible.
Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk’s absence from the upcoming UEFA 2020 European Championships was always going to happen following his serious injury towards the start of the Premier League season. However, there was a glimmer of hope that he would return to The Netherlands in time.
That was not to be the case as the colossal defender ruled himself out and was subsequently left out of Ronald De Boer’s preliminary squad for the upcoming competition.
Just as Haaland has been doing, Van Dijk was making his position look easy and made defending look incredibly simple, which would have been extremely useful for the Dutch as a center-back pairing of the Liverpool star and Juventus’ Matthijs De Ligt would have provided those supporting Oranje with an air of confidence about their chances.
Jan Oblak
Like Haaland’s Norway, Slovenia failed to qualify for the upcoming tournament which means football fans will not be able to see one of the best goalkeepers, if not the best, take to the field.
Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak has long been considered one of the best between the sticks, and many would have wanted to see the 28-year-old get his opportunity to represent and captain his country in the finals.
Joe Gomez
Another Liverpool center-back to miss out on the opportunity to represent his country at the upcoming UEFA 2020 European Championships is England's Joe Gomez.
The center-back, who will likely get the chance to represent the Three Lions in the future if he can return to the levels he was at prior to his injury, has also been sidelined for much of the 20/21 Premier League season and is not expected to be able to return to the pitch until pre-season.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
As Serbia miss out on featuring at the tournament, so do some extremely valuable and talented footballers, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s miss perhaps one of the biggest disappointments.
The central midfielder is one of the brightest and most exciting talents to play in the middle of the park at the moment, but the SS Lazio star will not be able to show football fans this summer why so many football clubs around Europe have courted for his signature in recent memory.
