Canadian-born Japanese wrestler Tyson Smith, famously known by his ring name Kenny Omega, is the current executive vice president of the AEW (All Elite Wrestling). Besides appearing in AEW, he also performs in the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He is the current holder of the AEW World Tag Team Championship title with his partner Adam Page and also the AAA Mega Championship title during his first reign.
Omega is mainly known for his appearance in NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling). He established himself as the unbeatable champions of pro wrestling while winning several titles including IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and also the IWGP United States Championship. He became the only non-Japanese wrestler to win the G1 Climax championship after defeating Hirooki Goto in 2016.

Omega developed his interest in professional wrestling in his very early days. His affection became stronger after one of his school friends started wrestling training in Top Rope Championship Wrestling in Winnipeg. He was playing ice hockey for his school team when he finally made his mind to start training under Bobby Jay, the TRCW promoter. He then started his training at the age of just fifteen.
After a year practicing under Bobby, Omega made his debut in the professional wrestling circuit in 2000, at the age of just 16. For the following two years, he remained an integral part of the TRCW wrestling promotion. He developed an in-ring persona of a Hawaiian surfer named ‘Kenny Omega’ during that time. He completed his high-school education in 2001 and went to pursue his dream to become a professional wrestler.
Kenny Omega Early Career
Omega made his professional wrestling debut with PCW (Premier Championship Wrestling) in 2001. He then became the PCW Heavyweight Champion while defeating Adam Knight on 18th September 2003. Shortly after, he failed to defend his heavyweight title and lost to his fellow wrestler Rawskillz on 26th November 2003. However, he then formed a tag-team partnership with Rawskillz in the following year.
While teaming with Rawskillz, Omega defeated Shawn Houston and Chris Raine and became the PCW Tag Team Champion in August 2004. That same year, he made his debut in National Wrestling Alliance. He emerged as the contender against Petey Williams in the TNA X Division Championship on 17th October 2004. Following his success in several independent wrestling promotions, WWE invited Omega for a week-long tryout in 2005. WWE's then-developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling, then gave him the chance for a tryout. Shortly after, he signed a developmental contract with DSW that quickly escalated as a full-time contract with them. He finally made his debut against Mack Johnson on 27th October 2005.
After a year with WWE, Omega opted for his return to Premier Championship Wrestling and demanded an immediate release in August 2006. In a later interview, he once told that his time with DSW was not that great and he also criticized his training Bob Holly along with his promoter Jody Hamilton and Bill DeMott. Omega recently also claimed that WWE approached her at least three times after that which he turned down.
Kenny Omega PCW Career
Following his release from WWE, Omega opted for his return to PCW on 14th September 2006. He faced AJ Styles in his comeback match. He then defended his Premier Cup title for the second time by defeating Petey Williams in June 2007. The following year, he achieved his third PCW Heavyweight Championship title by defeating Mike Angels in the final on 31st January 2008.
Kenny Omega Jersey All Pro Wrestling Career
Omega made his debut in JAPW (Jersey All Pro Wrestling) on 8th September 2007 and defeated Danny Demanto in his first faceoff. He then captured the JAPW Heavyweight Championship title by defeating Low Ki on 8th March 2008 in New Jersey. In the following year, he defended his heavyweight title by defeating Frankie Kazarian in the Spring Massacre event on 19th April 2009.

He defeated Liger during the inaugural United States tour. He then never appeared in the JAPW since 14th April 2012. Kenny Omega Ring of Honor Career
Omega made his debut in ROH (Ring of Honor) against Delirious on 25th July 2008. The very next day, he competed in his first-ever major ROH tournament, New Horizons. He then took part in the ROH World Championship on 14th November 2009. He appeared in just six matches throughout the 2010 season. Omega appeared in his last match against Christopher Daniels on 19th June that year.
He then failed to make an appearance in ROH. However, he again signed a contract as a full-time wrestler with them in February 2016. Shortly after, he made his comeback in the ‘Honor Rising: Japan’ event on 20th February 2016. He, along with his partners Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, achieved the Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship title. He made his last appearance for ROH in October 2017.

During his time with independent promotions in 2006, he became quite influenced by Japanese wrestler Kota Ibushi who was performing in the Dramatic Dream Team at that time. Omega also uploaded a video of him wrestling in that similar style on YouTube. He caught the attention of DDT with that video and they invited him to wrestle against Kota Ibushi in Japan. Shortly after, he made his debut in Japan in August 2008.
He formed a tag team called ‘Golden Lovers ‘with Kota Ibushi and won the KO-D Tag Team Championship title on 21st January 2009. Omega then took part in the AJPW (All Japan Pro Wrestling) as the representative of DDT in 2011. He tested his first major success while becoming the World Junior Heavyweight Champion while defeating Kai on 23rd October 2011. After just two months, he then became the World Junior Heavyweight Champion on 23rd December 2011.
He successfully defended his KO-D Openweight Championship title while defeating Isami Kodaka on 27th January 2013. Shortly after, he also achieved the DDT Extreme Division Championship title. He became the first champion ever to hold both of these titles at the same time. Omega then appeared in his final match for DDT on 26th October 2014. He and his partner Ibushi won the match that night.
Kenny Omega Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Career
Omega made his debut in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in a match called ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ on 1st November 2008. He bagged his first victory in PWG against reigning champion Davey Richards on 11th April 2009. He then defended the ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ against Roderick Strong in November 2009. And with that feat, he became the PWG World Champion for the first time in his career.
After a gap for almost two years, he made his comeback in PWG on 27th October 2012. He appeared with his tag-team partner El Generico and defeated ‘The Young Bucks’ in that match. He then made his second return to the PWG circuit in the ‘2014 Battle of Los Angeles’ on 29th August 2014. Omega then took a pause for almost three years and made his final comeback in the ‘2017 Battle of Los Angeles’ match on 2nd September 2017.
Kenny Omega New Japan Pro-Wrestling Career
Omega made his debut in NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) as a tag team partner of Kota Ibushi on 31st January 2010. He then signed his full-time contract with them on 3rd October 2014 following his contract expiration with DDT. He became a member of the ‘Bullet Club’ and faced Ryusuke Taguchi in the Wrestle Kingdom 9 tournament on 4th January 2015. Besides, he also became the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion with this feat.
Omega achieved the IWGP Intercontinental Championship while defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in a match called ‘The New Beginning’ on 14th February 2016.
