Canadian-born Japanese wrestler Tyson Smith, famously known by his ring name Kenny Omega, is the current executive vice president of the AEW (All Elite Wrestling). Besides appearing in AEW, he also performs in the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He is the current holder of the AEW World Tag Team Championship title with his partner Adam Page and also the AAA Mega Championship title during his first reign.

Omega is mainly known for his appearance in NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling). He established himself as the unbeatable champions of pro wrestling while winning several titles including IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and also the IWGP United States Championship. He became the only non-Japanese wrestler to win the G1 Climax championship after defeating Hirooki Goto in 2016.

Besides his short association with WWE, Omega mainly performed for several independent wrestling promotions such as Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, and DDT Pro-Wrestling. Kenny Omega Training 

Omega developed his interest in professional wrestling in his very early days. His affection became stronger after one of his school friends started wrestling training in Top Rope Championship Wrestling in Winnipeg. He was playing ice hockey for his school team when he finally made his mind to start training under Bobby Jay, the TRCW promoter. He then started his training at the age of just fifteen. 

After a year practicing under Bobby, Omega made his debut in the professional wrestling circuit in 2000, at the age of just 16. For the following two years, he remained an integral part of the TRCW wrestling promotion. He developed an in-ring persona of a Hawaiian surfer named ‘Kenny Omega’ during that time. He completed his high-school education in 2001 and went to pursue his dream to become a professional wrestler.

 

Kenny Omega Early Career 

Omega made his professional wrestling debut with PCW (Premier Championship Wrestling) in 2001. He then became the PCW Heavyweight Champion while defeating Adam Knight on 18^th September 2003. Shortly after, he failed to defend his heavyweight title and lost to his fellow wrestler Rawskillz on 26^th November 2003. However, he then formed a tag-team partnership with Rawskillz in the following year. 

While teaming with Rawskillz, Omega defeated Shawn Houston and Chris Raine and became the PCW Tag Team Champion in August 2004. That same year, he made his debut in National Wrestling Alliance. He emerged as the contender against Petey Williams in the TNA X Division Championship on 17^th October 2004. The following year, he made his debut in the World League Wrestling by Harley Race in Missouri. 

Kenny Omega WWE Career 

Following his success in several independent wrestling promotions, WWE invited Omega for a week-long tryout in 2005. WWE's then-developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling, then gave him the chance for a tryout. Shortly after, he signed a developmental contract with DSW that quickly escalated as a full-time contract with them. He finally made his debut against Mack Johnson on 27^th October 2005. 

After a year with WWE, Omega opted for his return to Premier Championship Wrestling and demanded an immediate release in August 2006. In a later interview, he once told that his time with DSW was not that great and he also criticized his training Bob Holly along with his promoter Jody Hamilton and Bill DeMott. Omega recently also claimed that WWE approached her at least three times after that which he turned down.

Kenny Omega PCW Career 

Following his release from WWE, Omega opted for his return to PCW on 14^th September 2006. He faced AJ Styles in his comeback match. He then defended his Premier Cup title for the second time by defeating Petey Williams in June 2007. The following year, he achieved his third PCW Heavyweight Championship title by defeating Mike Angels in the final on 31^st January 2008. 

Kenny Omega Jersey All Pro Wrestling Career 

Omega made his debut in JAPW (Jersey All Pro Wrestling) on 8^th September 2007 and defeated Danny Demanto in his first faceoff. He then captured the JAPW Heavyweight Championship title by defeating Low Ki on 8^th March 2008 in New Jersey. In the following year, he defended his heavyweight title by defeating Frankie Kazarian in the Spring Massacre event on 19^th April 2009. 

After a short gap from JAPW due to his appearance in various independent wrestling promotions, he made his return and claimed the JAPW Light Heavyweight Championship on 15^th March 2011. He defeated Liger during the inaugural United States tour. He then never appeared in the JAPW since 14^th April 2012. In an interview, Omega later also revealed that JAPW had not held a tour since that time.

Kenny Omega Ring of Honor Career 

Omega made his debut in ROH (Ring of Honor) against Delirious on 25^th July 2008. The very next day, he competed in his first-ever major ROH tournament, New Horizons. He then took part in the ROH World Championship on 14^th November 2009. He appeared in just six matches throughout the 2010 season. Omega appeared in his last match against Christopher Daniels on 19^th June that year. 

He then failed to make an appearance in ROH. However, he again signed a contract as a full-time wrestler with them in February 2016. Shortly after, he made his comeback in the ‘Honor Rising: Japan’ event on 20^th February 2016. He, along with his partners Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, achieved the Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship title. He made his last appearance for ROH in October 2017. 

Kenny Omega DDT Pro-Wrestling Career 

During his time with independent promotions in 2006, he became quite influenced by Japanese wrestler Kota Ibushi who was performing in the Dramatic Dream Team at that time. Omega also uploaded a video of him wrestling in that similar style on YouTube. He caught the attention of DDT with that video and they invited him to wrestle against Kota Ibushi in Japan. Shortly after, he made his debut in Japan in August 2008. 

He formed a tag team called ‘Golden Lovers ‘with Kota Ibushi and won the KO-D Tag Team Championship title on 21^st January 2009. Omega then took part in the AJPW (All Japan Pro Wrestling) as the representative of DDT in 2011. He tested his first major success while becoming the World Junior Heavyweight Champion while defeating Kai on 23rd October 2011. After just two months, he then became the World Junior Heavyweight Champion on 23^rd December 2011. 

He successfully defended his KO-D Openweight Championship title while defeating Isami Kodaka on 27^th January 2013. Shortly after, he also achieved the DDT Extreme Division Championship title. He became the first champion ever to hold both of these titles at the same time. Omega then appeared in his final match for DDT on 26th October 2014. He and his partner Ibushi won the match that night.

Kenny Omega Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Career 

Omega made his debut in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in a match called ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ on 1^st November 2008. He bagged his first victory in PWG against reigning champion Davey Richards on 11^th April 2009. He then defended the ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ against Roderick Strong in November 2009. And with that feat, he became the PWG World Champion for the first time in his career. 

After a gap for almost two years, he made his comeback in PWG on 27^th October 2012. He appeared with his tag-team partner El Generico and defeated ‘The Young Bucks’ in that match. He then made his second return to the PWG circuit in the ‘2014 Battle of Los Angeles’ on 29^th August 2014. Omega then took a pause for almost three years and made his final comeback in the ‘2017 Battle of Los Angeles’ match on 2^nd September 2017. 

Kenny Omega New Japan Pro-Wrestling Career 

Omega made his debut in NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) as a tag team partner of Kota Ibushi on 31^st January 2010. He then signed his full-time contract with them on 3rd October 2014 following his contract expiration with DDT. He became a member of the ‘Bullet Club’ and faced Ryusuke Taguchi in the Wrestle Kingdom 9 tournament on 4^th January 2015. Besides, he also became the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion with this feat. 

Omega achieved the IWGP Intercontinental Championship while defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in a match called ‘The New Beginning’ on 14^th February 2016. He then competed against then- IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada on 4^th January 2017. That match at Tokyo Dome then received a six-star rating from wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter. 

Omega faced Okada in a no-time-limit match in the Osaka-jo Hall on 9^th June 2019. And with that win, he became the first-ever Canadian wrestler to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship title. Soon after that marvelous victory, he touched a new height of popularity in Japan. However, he never went for a contract extension with NJPW after his contract expired in January 2019.

 

Kenny Omega AEW Career 

Following his release from NJPW, he signed a four-year contract with AEW (All Elite Wrestling) on 7^th February 2019. Besides being a performing wrestler, he also started working as an executive vice president for this wrestling promotion along with Cody, Matt, and Nick Jackson. He then made his debut against Chris Jericho in a pay-per-view match called ‘Double or Nothing’. He recently appeared in the Revolution PPV match on 29^th February 2020. 

Kenny Omega Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide Career 

Omega made his debut in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide on 3^rd August 2019. It was a part of the Triplemanía XXVII event of AEW at that time. He achieved his first title in Lucha Libre after he defeated Fénix in the AAA Mega Championship. He then defended his title while defeating Jack Evans in November that year. Shortly after, he defeated both Dragon Lee and Sammy Guevara to defend his world title on two separate occasions till 2020.

Kenny Omega Sans | Kenny Omega Undertale 

Since his early days in wrestling, Omega appeared with several gimmicks and appeared in various outfits. As an avid fan of gaming, he collaborated with the creator of Undertale, Toby Fox. And with that collaboration, he appeared as ‘Sans’ from the game in his final appearance for NJPW. Needless to say, that is one of the most outrageous costumes in the wrestling universe. He also used the theme song of that game called ‘Hopes and Dreams’ as his entrance music in that game. 

Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho 

Omega made his debut in All Elite Wrestling with a match against one of the most popular WWE wrestler, Chris Jericho, in a match called ‘Double or Nothing’. Jon Moxley attacked both of them on that match. Omega then teamed up with ‘The Young Bucks’ and defeated Jericho’s team in the first episode of Dynamite on 2^nd October 2019. Shortly after, Omega teamed up with Adam Page and won the AEW World Tag Team Championship on 22^nd January 2020.

 

Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega 

Jon Moxley first attacked Omega during his debut match against Chris Jericho in All Elite Wrestling. As retaliation, Omega then attacked Moxley in the following month in a match called ‘Fyter Fest’. He then challenged Moxley to face him on an ‘All-Out’ pay-per-view match. However, Moxley failed to compete in that match due to his MRSA infection. Following his recovery, Moxley then defeated Omega in the ‘Lights Out’ match on 9^th November 2019. 

Kenny Omega Finishing Move and Style 

Tyson chose his ring name ‘Kenny Omega’ after being inspired by one of the Final Fantasy characters called ‘Omega Weapon’. His finishing move, One-Winged Angel, is inspired by the Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII. Besides, he also now uses a variation of Dr. Wily's theme music from Mega Man as his entrance theme. Moreover, he also uses the ‘Hadouken’ attack maneuver which is a signature move of the Street Fighter series. 

As an avid flower of video games and anime characters, Omega donned several costumes based on gaming characters. He wore ring gear during the Fyter Fest in June 2019 which is inspired by a Street Fighter character called Akuma. He then also donned a ‘Cleaner’ look which is inspired by a character of the Resident Evil video game called Albert Wesker.
