American professional basketball team Indiana Pacers is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is part of the National Basketball Association in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The team was established in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association. The team then became a member of the NBA as a result of the ABA-NBA merger in 1976. Indiana Pacers plays their home matches at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The team was named after the Indianapolis 500's pace cars and also for Indiana's history with harness racing pacers.

A group of six investors, Richard Tinkham, John DeVoe, Chuck DeVoe, Chuck Barnes, and Bob Collins, purchase a franchise in the proposed American Basketball Association in early 1967. They stayed for 25 years in the new Market Square Arena in downtown Indianapolis since they moved in 1974.

Brooklyn Nets

    I don't get it. The New York Knicks played in the first NBA game, Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors before any of these teams even existed. The Ft. Wayne Pistons were around in the 1950's. The St. Louis Hawks lost the 1957 NBA title, they are in Atlanta today and the Rochester Royals won the 1951 NBA Championship, they are known today as the Sacramento Kings
