August 17, 2021 By Sourav
When producing a "Tops In The World" list, it's always biased. I based my list on many key factors like showmanship, the capability to produce great matches, fan feedback, and the Market Value of a Wrestler. With those details in mind, here is a list of the Top 10 Greatest wrestlers in the history of wrestling entertainment.
Greatest Wrestlers | All-Time Ranking
Wrestling is one of the oldest sport in The World, but pro wrestling as we know it today has only existed for a few decades. The game of kings is now the game of entertainers. In the last several decades pro wrestling has shaped some of the most acknowledged sports celebrities in history.
10. Rowdy Roddy Piper
The "Hot Rod" played the antagonist to Hulk Hogan's hero in the mid-80s. Without Piper, in a role he was meant to play, the "Rock-n-Wrestling Connection" may not have been as successful as it was.
What Piper lacked in wrestling skill, Otherwise when Piper got on the microphone, Fans knew they were going to be entertained. He is at No.10 in the list of top 10 greatest wrestlers in history.
9. Ric Flair
The vintage star of WWE, Rik Flair aka The "Nature Boy", was one of the '80s most gifted wrestlers. He held the NWA/ WCW World Heavyweight Championship more than any other wrestler.
Unfortunately, the lack of attention in NWA/WCW compared to WWF was disadvantageous to Flair. Flair will be known for his unbelievable set of marathon matches with Ricky Steamboat. He now holds his place in the No.9 spot among the best wrestlers of all time.
8. Chris Jericho
I'm not a big fan of Chris Jericho, but there is no doubt that he is one of this generation's most convincing and contentious characters. A perfect mix of wrestling talent and mic work, Jericho is consistently entertaining.
He is credited as being the first Undisputed WWF Champion, having unified the World Championship and the WWF Championship by defeating The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin on the same night in 2001. Surely, he is one of the greatest wrestlers in history.
7. Brock Lesnar
Though Brock Lesnar spent partial time in the WWE, the “impression” he made during those times without doubt account for something. Lesnar was, at one time, the youngest WWE Heavyweight Champion. He was designed for greatness and pegged as the man to guide the company into the next detonation stage.
After an eight-year interruption, Brock Lesnar returned in 2012, prompting a massive media response. Though restricted in his role, his attractiveness amongst sports fans gave WWE a much-needed inoculation shot. Not to mention, he is one of the Greatest Wrestlers of all time. Besides his success in WWE, Lesnar also made his name as one of the richest UFC fighters of all time.
6. Triple H
For HHH, it really is all about the game. The game of wrestling. They call him the "intellectual killer" for his skills to play brainpower games. But Triple H is also one of the best wrestler in-ring storytellers of the past few decades.
His matches are always strong, make sense, and are genuine. In current years, his backstage clout has misted up fans' ruling of him. But the fact remains that he is one of the purest sports wrestlers to come up the pike in recent years.
5. John Cena
WWE superstar John Cena will never be mistaken for a Harley Race or Lou Thesz. But what Cena lacks in actual wrestling ability, he certainly makes up for in personality. For the last several years, Cena has been the face of WWE. As a top product seller, his t-shirts can be seen all over arenas worldwide.
Though hated by smart male fans, he is popular with the youth demographic WWE is pushing towards. Cena is 5th on our list of Greatest Wrestlers. Besides, Cena also holds his place as one of the most popular WWE superstars of all time.
4. The Undertaker
A reliable product in a world of egocentricity. Since making his debut for WWE in 1990, The Undertaker has blazed a pathway of devastation through the company. Besides his prominence as a great entertainer, Undertaker also holds his place among the richest WWE wrestlers of all time.
He has main event Wrestlemania, whitewashed all the big names like Austin and The Rock, and is still able to participate in high-profile matches without dissatisfaction. Without any doubt, he is one of the Greatest Wrestlers of all time if not the greatest.
3. The Rock
One of the most thrilling men in sports entertainment spent less than 10 Years with WWE before retiring to Hollywood Film Industry. Though his sabbaticals have a tendency to last years, The Rock continues to visit the home that launched his victorious career. The Rock helps many championships, but his most regarded title was being "The Peoples Champion."
With his eyebrow-raising and signature catchphrase, The Rock was one of the tops draws for McMahon's wild star-studded circus. A true Fighter, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is definitely one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of wrestling entertainment.
2. Stone Cold - Steve Austin
After wasting time in WCW, Austin went to WWE where he was given a new lease on life. His "Stone Cold" character unleashed a can of whoop-ass on the American community and skyrocketed the WWE into a billion-dollar business. During his popular run, Austin's t-shirts outsold other wrestling products 4-to-1.
He was also a bonafide rating bonanza, helping WWE Raw take over the lead from rival WCW Nitro. Truly a champion, he deserves the No.2 spot Greatest Wrestlers on our list.
1. Hulk Hogan
WWE star Hulk Hogan is the greatest wrestler of all time. None of the wrestlers in history would have made the impact he did. And for that reason, along with many others, he is the greatest of all time. Many may argue my list, but I think it's a fair estimation. Obviously, fans of the newer generation may be asking where their stars are.
But, one must memorize that many of the newer generations are still carving their paths, collecting their accolades, and perfecting their craft. One day, they too may describe the greatest of all time.
