LOL. Alina Zagitova who won everything (gold medals in Olympic, World, European, Grand Prix) plus silver medals in European and Grand Prix is not even on the list. The list is totally USA-centric.

      Sourav Das December 13, 2019 17:43

There are four females from different countries than the USA. How can you tell that this list is USA-centric?

Alina is accomplished but not a great. The greats dominate and transform the sport in big ways. She was only on the senior circuit 2.5 seasons and she lacks basic stretch, posture, and artistry. Her jumping technique is dreadful, although it did get her to an Olympic medal. She is a lovely spinner and a beautiful young lady but top 10 greats...no way. And Oksana? She is adorable but the greats, no. You do not even have Sjoukje Dijkstra? Tara? A Great? the youngest but not a great, she pushed the sport technically a little but her skating was childish and her edges not deep at all. She looked like a roller skater, which she was but also good for her she won but great, no way. And if you have Americans, like no Tenley Albright???

You do not have Yuna Kim on your list, therefore, it is not credible. Nice US and Olympic bias though lol

    ??? ????

      Sourav Das April 11, 2020 18:26

Yes, she is one of the best figure skaters. But sadly, not among the top 10.
She has just a single Olympic medal.

Alina Zagitova is the best, in my opinion. She has the stretch, poise and posture, to the contrary of one opinion. Her ballet background is quite evident. She's beautiful and talented. We can thank
her coach Eteri for most of her success. The two numbers Alina did in the Olympics will stand the test of time as Classic Perfection.

    1. Sourav Das
      Sourav Das May 11, 2020 17:59

Zagitoga is surely one of the best. But, it will need some more time to include her in the list of the greatest figure skaters. She is just 17 and has plenty of time to show her consistency in the international circuit.
And, thanks for visiting us. Keep visiting our sports blog!

I agree with Yuna Kim. Do not agree with Oksana or Tata Lipinski. They were at the top for such a short time. After her Olympic win, Oksana crashed and burned. Tara won on fearlessness and technique but hadnít mastered artistry. GOAT are those who achieve greatness, improve and maintain for a period of time.

Surya Bonaly isn't on this list??? Till this day NO ONE had successfully done her flip. No she doesn't have a gold medal but look her up and you will know why!!!!!

    1. Sourav Das
      Sourav Das June 16, 2020 16:40

The primary criteria we used in this list is the achievement that the figure skaters have that includes Olympic and World Championship medals. Besides, we also considered the impact that they had during their heydays.
And I'm sorry to say, Bonaly is nowhere near in both of these criteria.

Interesting. I didn't seem to find Yu Na Kim amongst the greatest, and most influential figure skater. She has made quite an impression on her fans and supporters through her remarkable career.

Definitely Yuna Kim should be on the list. She swept the 2009-2010 ISU Grand Prix season on the way to winning the Grand Prix Final, World Championships, and Olympic Gold...and still managed to medal again at the next World Championships like a month later (when many gold medalists would have taken time off to rest). She left skating for 19 months and came back to win the World Championships again and silver in Olympics...where many of the skaters (Fleming, Witt, Browning, etc.) on your list believe she clearly deserved the gold. Her scores show that despite competing amongst a talented generation of skaters, she was head and shoulders above the competition setting records while winning by significant margins.

  15. Edwin

Yuna Kim should be on the list Your list is so biased towards US. Yuna Kim has 2 olympic gold medals. (Everyone knows Yuna Kim deserves the 2014 Sochi olympic gold medal. The whole thing was rigged) Yuna is the first female figure skater to achieve the grand slam and she has won every single competition in her career since her junior years. She was always on the podium.

How do you have a one-hit wonder like Tara Lipinski on this list but not Dorothy friggin' Hamil??? Or Yuna Kim???

If this list was based on sheer skill and artistry, pound-for-pound Yuna Kim would be number 1.

Katarina Witt is the most overrated skater in history. Has anyone actually watched her skating instead of just looking at the fact that she has 2 olympic golds? She had terrible technique and bad posture and could not do the difficult jumps. Furthermore, she was awful at the compulsory figures so much that the judges had to inflate her scores in order for her to be in the top 3 to remain in the running for a medal. Had Rosalyn skated cleanly in 84 she would have been the gold medalist. And everyone forgets that Witt did NOT win the free skate in 88. That was Liz Manley.
While I agree Yuna should be on this list, she is definitely not at the top of it. Another skater with bad technique and no emotional connection to the audience. Oksana? What a joke!!! Sorry the Russians of the day are not great. They will become obsolete by the time they are 17 like Alina was and replaced by a younger, tinier more robotic girl. If Russians are trying to achieve greatness like the Americans have with their past skaters they should look for skaters who can withstand the test of time and growth. Plushenko is a great example. Janet Lynn is number 1 and Michelle Kwan 2. Can we please bring the Scotvolds back to help current competitive skaters with jump technique and artistry?

  19. Jack
    Jack December 10, 2020 18:44

LMFAO- Oksana Baiul has no business on this list. She was given the Gold in 94 by bloc judging. She is not even a top 25 of all-time skater.

Yuna Kim - the greatest female figure skater of all time

  21. Oreadno1

Michelle Kwan should be #2 as she is the 2nd most decorated figure skater in history. Tara and Oksana shouldn't be on the list as all they did was win 1 Worlds and 1 Olympics (and in Tara's case she only won because Michelle skated first in their group. Had Michelle skated later in their rotation then the judges wouldn't have held back on their scores)
